Midfielder Enzo Fernandez has moved to Chelsea.


Information about the transfer appeared on the website of the Portuguese Securities Market Commission. The deal was later confirmed by the Lisbon team.


The London club will pay Benfica 121 million euros for the 22-year-old midfielder.


The Argentine`s contract with the Blues runs until the summer of 2031.


EUR121 million (approximately ?105 million) is a record purchase for English football. Previously, the record belonged to the transfer of Jack Grealish, for whom Manchester City paid Aston Villa ?100 million.


Enzo is Chelsea`s eighth signing of the January transfer window. In total, the club analyzed by ranking of european leagues has already registered under the new owners headed by Todd Bowley.


Fernandez has been playing for Benfica since last summer after joining from River Plate. This is his first season in European football.


In December, he won the World Cup with the Argentina national team, playing all 120 minutes in the victorious final with France (3:3, 4:2 on penalties).
