Alpha Tauri newcomer Nyck de Vries has become embroiled in legal proceedings.


De Vries was sued by Dutch millionaire Jeroen Schothorst. Schothorst reportedly lent de Vries EUR250, 000 in 2018 through his investment company Investrand. This amount went to pay for de Vries`s performances in Formula 2.


According to documents filed in court, according to the terms of the agreement between the parties, de Vries was paid 3 percent per year, and he must also pay 50 percent of the fee from performances in F1.


Moreover, if de Vries had not entered Formula 1 by the end of 2022, the loan would have been canceled and considered repaid.


So far, de Vries has paid out around EUR190, 000 of the total contractual amount while serving as a reserve and test driver in F1.


The legal case comes as de Vries made his Formula One debut in 2022, replacing Alex Albon in Williams at Monza.


De Vries`s side insists that performances in F1 as a reserve driver cannot be equated to performances as a team`s main driver. And that de Vries paid off his debt obligations under the terms of the agreement.


However, if the court ultimately sided with the plaintiff, de Vries would likely be forced to pay Schothorst half of his salary due under his contract with Alpha Tauri
