Alonso`s first partner in F1 spoke about the greatness of the Spaniard. Tarso Marques, with whom Fernando Alonso drove for Minardi in 2001, shared his opinion on the place in history of the two-time Formula 1 champion.
I`m a fan of Ayrton Senna, like all Brazilians, recently there have been legends like Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton and now Max Verstappen, and it`s very hard to compare drivers from different eras, but I think Fernando is as good or better.
If I had to choose one rider for my team, I would take Fernando. I think he was better than Schumacher when they raced each other and - this will upset the Brazilians - I would say he is better than Senna too.
Senna was amazing, a natural talent, but he made more mistakes than Fernando, that`s true. Fernando immediately learned how to not only be fast in a race, but also how to run it smart - the same thing I would say about Hamilton.
Fernando is perhaps the greatest along with Hamilton. I think Fernando should be on his level in terms of number of titles - he just didn`t have the right car at times. I think he deserves more championships. Those are amazing two titles, but they don`t truly reflect his talent. He should have won a lot more, " Marques said of Alonso, now representing Aston Martin.
