The head of the Board of Directors of Bayern (Munich) Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has reopened the debate with football fans about who owns football. In front of Sportbild, the former German national and current leader of one of the most successful teams in Europe opposed the demands of the fans for reforms united under the slogan `Unser Fussball` (`Our Football`). Their goal is to give more influence to the fans in determining the fate of their favorite teams. `I find the very name of the campaign quite presumptuous, ` Rummenigge said. `Who owns football? Most of all those who play it, no matter what level. Fans are part of the game, but the game does not belong to them, ` said the famous striker from the past.

The `Our Football` initiative was launched by a series of fan factions across Germany, some of which were the basis for maintaining the ownership rule of the 50 + 1 clubs in 2018when its removal was discussed. To date, the fans` petition, which calls for measures to ensure fairer competition, greater social responsibility, democracy, sustainable funding and recognition of the importance of match supporters, has been signed by a total of 2, 400 factions and 12, 500 people.

`Unfortunately, we have reached a point where the fans only demand this and that. Now I read that they want to participate in the distribution of money from TV rights. Rummenigge, along with Hoffenheim owner Dietmar Hop, received the Sportbuild award for `Gesture of the Year` in recognition of their actions when Bayern fans put up posters against Hop during the match between the two teams in February. For many in Germany, however, the awarding of the Rummenigge and Hop Prize was a controversial choice, especially in a season when Bundesliga players stood up in support of the Black Lives Matter movement and clubs via contact soccer win bets and fan groups supported their local communities during the crisis withcoronavirus.
